Comments are welcome about the value of given prices. Largely, this is for gunsmiths and restorers who will send parts already prepped. Though disassembly, prep, and reassembly are the hard parts of a refinish, Steve will ensure a dynamite finish within the realms of the processes they carry out. This is high quality work that, I think, Remington uses. They used to rust blue all the Ithaca Gun barrels and receivers, but rust bluing is no longer available.

Sorry, the "handful of parts for a couple interesting beers" trade is not available!

Rich, he's a real guy, taking over the biz from his dad. He's entertained my piddly needs for a few years. He seems impressed at my prep capabilities. I'll get some pics up soon for your perusal.

Today I picked up the formerly mottled slide from my first Llama .380, and the barreled receiver for the .22 "Ermarican Eagle" I'm putting together. I had dropped them off last Thursday, on the way to the dentist. He said that it was a slow day and they'd be ready in about 45 min. When I returned after the cleaning and checkup, I'd just removed my helmet and earplugs (Python pipes on the Springer Softail) and he was already out the door to show me the results. There were some pinpoint imperfections that lurked on the surface of each--so small that I would have had to don the stronger glasses to see them--and he wanted to give them an acid dip to eliminate the problem and do them again. They were ready yesterday, but I ran out of time to do errands before I could get up there to retrieve them.

The Erma parts had been salt blued originally, so that upper looks factory-door fresh and perfect. The Llama slide had been charcoal blued in '52 when it was made, and it looks fantastic--but not exactly original. But I will use it as a shooter and keep the 1948 example I bought later as my collectible. Later examples were salt blued, and their configurations tend to depart from the recipe for a 3/4 scale 1911A1--a voluptuous curve at the bottom of the front grip strap (sort of like the difference between a DMW and the later Swiss frames), mags with wide bottoms (wide ones cap off the mag well, tne older, narrow ones fit in flush with the frame old school 1911 style), slanted rear serrations on the slide, no relieved area on the slide (below the muzzle), ribs on top (some vented, some not), and better sights with the rear one adjustable. The .380s also have the same breech locking system as the big boys.

Beyond the refinishing of its Zamak grip frame of the Erma KGP 69 and a new screw to fasten the feed ramp back in place, all I need to do is send the receiver to be laser engraved with the Great Seal. The work by the engravers looks great in their website's gallery, and I can have two done for around $115 plus shipping, as they will simply swap out one for the other in the fixture that's set up for the first. The other receiver will, of course, have the Totenkopf applied!

Gunblack sounds like a viable alternative to other re-finishers! :)

I'd be interested in a crossed-rifle motif...maybe a pair of Mosin-Nagant rifles... :rolleyes:
