want to find out value

Had this Luger for 30 plus years & am trying to find out it's value. Thinking about giving up Nassau county pistol permit & think it is time to sell it. it's marked byf 41 & all matching serial numbers (except magazine) Not sure if it has been reblued but don't think so. Site is not letting me upload pictures. or I don't know how to.

I'll let a more advanced collector be the judge, but to me it looks like a refinish gun with reapplied proof stamps.

I just can't tell for sure from the photos, but some suggest re-blue while others do not. My WAG would be around $1100 reblue and $1600 if not. Assuming all matching, functional, etc.

Since this is not a "for sale" listing, I've moved it to discussion forum.

Please only post items for sale with prices in the "for sale" forum. Discussion is not allowed in the "for sale" postings.

This has the appearance of a reblued gun, and the proof stamps are not original. They were either engraved or done with modern reproduction dies. I'm leaning toward engraved.

It would be a mid-range shooter if it functions properly. It has an after market magazine, and may have replacement grips (need to see the backs).

At most, I'm thinking a value of $950-$1000.

lets see what it looks like under different light, such as filtered day light - not direct sunlight, under a tree, near a window, etc.

Lighting can really make something look reblued or not, the shiny makes it seem reblued

If not, and original, its in really nice shape and worth over $2000 - I would say by condition $2300-2500 - however, if selling among collectors, closer to 2k

but reblued, then the value above...

It's not really the color and sheen that's suspicious, if you look at the top view you'll find a lot of roundovers that shouldn't be there. Some of this is visible in the rest of the pictures as well. The stamps are another giveaway, wrong size, wrong style etc. and they just don't look right at all.

I'm 99.9% sure it's a reblue. Being a 9mm, I would guesstimate $1k, give or take $100-$150 depending on how badly somebody wants it. If this was my gun, I'd try $1k on GB and see if it flies.

To my old eyes, this is a definite re-blued Luger. The buffing appears in quite a few places. The prices seen above seem reasonable to me, if it is a fully functional gun.

no, I did not say that - I said the sheen to it makes it seem funny :confused:

okay, my point was that sometimes pictures can lie :(

you probably look down the bore of a luger before you buy it too? :burnout::roflmao::burnout:

My tendency is to jump onto this bandwagon--buffed, re-blued, proofs finagled. One way to judge the buffing is by the "roundness" that Olle has pointed out--flat surfaces appear softer, not flat. I also think I spy some bluing over minor blemishes/pits/scratches. $800-1000 would be my opinion, definitely under a thou.

Is it just me or do the acceptance stamps seem unusually large?

Not just you!

Suggested above that they are engraved/whatever replacements/re-dos. They are obviously not stamped!

I'm suspicious, nonetheless. The sheen it has is a result of media blasting, which shows in the pics. The area above the trigger guard shows absolutely no residual too marks, which ordinarily would be expected. The pics do not show it, but I'd wager the area inside the "ears" are smooth and fuzzy, too. Reminds me of a black/blue peach!

Exactly what I thought as soon as I saw the pictures!
