Thor may want to at least consider this project. His talents are remarkable.

I have sat on this pistol for a few years now and I feel that I am not hurting anything by having it restored. Just have to weigh the cost of restoration vs value of the restored piece. Who know the poor old thing may just only be good for a parts gun.

Were it mine, I'd clean up the rust, change the barrel to one without a bulge, and shoot it a little. Please don't "part it out", if you don't want to resurrect it to a shooter, I'd take it off your hands; and do the work myself. |
As far as the "bulge" goes... you might want to get GT's opinion. It might be possible to ROLL press the barrel and compress the bulge back to where it started... Difficult, but not impossible... but like I said... get his opinion.

I've got several 1900 barrels - I am never sure about a project like this. I have a Bannerman attributed 1900 and it was buffed and reblued - needs a real restoration and I am sure would be worth it. One like this, it wouldn't hurt it, but I always hate 'fixing' up something, although this is pretty good candidate, even in my book. Although nicer or cleaned up grips always makes them look a lot nicer.

Ed would you be willing to part with any of these barrels . I havent decided what to do yet. I was waiting to see if Thor would chime in.

I would suggest contact G.T. for barrel replacement as I believe he has the tools and skill for that task; however I think you will need to supply the barrel. I would suggest Charles Danner for reblue. Contact data for both can be found via search.
I have a Model 1900 shooter (reblued and fairly beat-up) and must say I am quite pleased with it. I believe a project to return a M1900 to shootable status would be satisfying. Good luck in your project. |
Danner would be good for your reblue, I am not taking any work in at the moment. Thanks for the kind words.

Thor I would be willing to wait I am no hurry whatsoever

Thats fine with me but I would get the barrel work done by GT as soon as you can, that way it wont be a hurdle to jump when I do get it

Well, please keep us informed on how your project is going.
I simply love threads like this one, as it is always nice to have an old pistol coming back to life. |
Just an update. Pistol was sent to GT to see what miracle he can work on this tired old gun.
I know he is scratching his head about it. I would like to keep the original barrel if possible. |
