G.T.S/T barrels report...

Hi to all, I just today finished up assembling the G.T. Sport Target barrels that I had orders for... But, in the long elapsed time to complete, and also the on-going drum repair, I made an error in who I was making one of the barrels for? I made a 2.750" for Don V. and a 6.000" barrel for Richard H. and another 6.000" for Ed T. and, I also made a 4" complete with receiver and toggle train for...?????? I had thought Ron Wood, but turns out I was in error.. so If anyone had what I just described above on order, please let me know ASAP! ....;).... If no-one claims it by the end of the month, I will offer it for sale .... Anyway, it's now off to the range for function testing and accuracy! I'm excited.. wish I could shoot better!....:)... best to all, til...lat'r....GT.....

DonVoigt 06-10-2016 10:29 PM

GT,
that is good news. Let us know how they shoot for sure!

What style is the 4"? heavy bbl? slab side?

Edward Tinker 06-11-2016 12:32 AM

I already have a 4 inch and love it (HB) and really looking forward to the 6 inch HB design :)

barrel pics!

Hi to all, I have just upgraded to windows 10 and for some reason, I can't get pictures to load?.. But, I have sent Dons Baby top half, a 9mm with a 2.750" barrel out to him yesterday! He will have it early next week, but has to fit and profile the custom Mauser K98k style front sight blade first! Perhaps he will take some pictures? It is a striking assembly with the scalloped toggles done by Rich for him, and the slab barrel, one of as kind for sure.......
Richard H's unit is nearly ready for the range as I have to do the same front sight work as well... Ed T's unit is ready except his receiver needs some straightening, as it works fine loose of the frame, but tightens up when installed...:jumper:... So, off to the frame straightening jig we go!.....:jumper:..... I have the 4" GTS/T top half complete with an original Luger front sight ready to go?... But have not as of yet found an owner for that hound??.... It's 1K total shipped.... open to first come first serve.. I'll release it for sure on the 25th if the original order person doesn't step up by then.... But if you want it, speak up now, as there will probably be no more this year.... Best to all, til....lat'r.....GT.....

GT,
thanks for the update. You can be sure I'll do photos and post.

What is the barrel profile of the 4" without owner?

what Ollie said was it is the same profile as mine, since that is the set up they decided on - took my suggestions, their suggestions and just made a design...

My apologies GT I tried to share the previous pictures and it popped them on top, I will fix it if I can get my computer acting okay.

You can send me any pictures and I'll post. Whats with my receivers wanting to be twisted?

DonVoigt 06-11-2016 01:19 PM

"Whats with my receivers wanting to be twisted?"

Usually results from use of pipe wrenches too large for job at hand!

GTS/T barrel info.

Hi to all! Hi Don, the latest final design of barrels that we just ran are nearly identical to the prototype that Ed pictured above, with the following changes, first of all, we radiused the muzzle to break the sharp edge on the outer most edge, and we increased the overall diameter to match that of an original Luger barrel flange dia. for two reasons, one to add aesthetically to the over all look, and two, to add a little defining material between the slab sides and the front sight relief?... Or at least that was the goal! .... Don, the four inch offering is exactly like your baby except longer, same with the 6.000" as well... they will all be the same from here on out as small changes are a lot more work and fixture time then it would seem... The one I now have extra is mounted in a very nice 1920 commercial receiver with DWM toggle train, all the small parts, and Luger front sight! It is exactly what I'm trying to accomplish for a G.T.S/T shooter offering! And any time I get a 1920 commercial top end, that's probably how it's going to end up!

Ed. the bad news on your receiver is, sometime since man walked on two feet, someone tried to remove the receiver by using a bar between the forks and spread it slightly right behind the chamber.. then to get it to fit, they squeezed it some right behind that!....... giving both, now bent forks, a coke bottle effect when all is put together... it, grabs, stops the breechblock from the middle back?... Good news, is, I can straighten it out... just take a couple of hours on the bench in the receiver straightening fixture.... I will straighten it as part of the overall project, and not pass that particular part of the labor on! So, that is good news again! Makes two out of three, so you're a winner!.... That's about it for now.... Don's baby really didn't want to go, it wanted to stay with me??... :jumper:... I've only ever had a few projects that I felt I would like to have when I was through with them! That is certainly one of them!..:)...til....lat'r...GT

Gerry, I've been going over your barrel threads and noting any interesting ideas. :)

In a previous G.T. barrel thread, Ron Wood posted -

"Skeeter" Skelton wrote and article "For love of a long-barreled Luger" or something like that that featured a specially made MMC sight adapted to the Luger toggle that appeared to be a viable option. I have a couple of MMC sights that I got from Hugh Clark that might be modified to fit (the adjustment screws are too wide to fit between the receiver rails).

I have that article/magazine, if there is any interest, I will post a PDF of it. I may have posted it before, but I saved it here somewhere...

Now a barrel with a picatinny rail so it looks more tactical ;)

Gerben,

Is there a way not to thank you for your post.

DonVoigt 06-12-2016 12:55 PM

Rich,
do post the info and pictures of your sights.
I may be up to taking on the rear sight modification project, if
GT is too busy!

Not my sights...Skelton had a friend at MMC modify one of theirs...

I'll post it separately...

Progress!

Hi to all, especially Ed! Well, just as I thought, a little time in the "receiver torture rack" and we are now "straight arrow!" .... another receiver brought back to life for another go around... Anyway, I NOW have three to range test tomorrow... and although I'm a little concerned about excessive barrel mass on the 6" version, I think all should go as planned... hopefully..... we'll know tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest..... I mean, bees don't know they're not supposed to be able to fly, right?.... Best to all, til....lat'r....GT...

excellent I like throwing 'lead' downrange like this

So I doubt that it'll intimidate me in holding it as I'm a two fisted shooter

DonVoigt 06-12-2016 05:28 PM

I suspect GT meant its effect on operation of the mechanism.

GT,
before you disperse your barrels, how about weighing them.
I'll weigh the baby and post when it gets here - starting a new thread.

Either with or without the receiver is ok, I can subtract an average receiver weight to get to bbl weight.

I've been weighing .30 barrels of different lengths and profiles related to the carbine project, will post the info in a "barrel weight" thread.

Weight of the recoiling mass has a direct impact on function of the luger, "velly interesting" sorting through what works and what does not.

sure, of course (not that I was thinking that )

:p

not that its here or there, but it is interesting how heavy some aluminum magazine bottoms are, compared to other magazines. I wished I had weighed the assorted mags I've had over the years.
