The best, most realistic Luger action I have seen in a movie, is in the "Twilight Zone" the movie, Report,toggle action, empties on the cobblestone, everything, plus some real nasty nazi's...till...later...G.T.

Boy, after GT told me this I HAD to get the movie, he is right on of course! BTW EATG has NO Lugers(Basically a rifleman's show) but lots of very very realistic and scary as hell footage. It will make you not want to EVER be a part of War, but of course I AINT TALKING! Ted

In an old 1930s flick with Jimmey Cagney, Public Enemy, I believe. His weapon of choice is a luger carbine with snail drum. Every time he fires you hear machine gun sounds. Not very accurate, but I guess with some alteration, all things are possible.

For lugers in familiar movies:


The Great Escape--Steve McQueen considers a long range shot at a German motorcycle rider.


All Quiet on the Western Front--as the Germans prepare to charge from the trenches, a very brief glimpse of an officer waving his luger. Only one in this 1931 movie, I think, and very very brief.


Von Ryan's Express--luger and MP40 in scene inside railcar.


Guns of Navarone (?)--a German officer has an LP08 in WW2??? Movie's hero shoots pretty young woman who is a spy.


Schindler's List--several bad guys with lugers that function by ejecting cases from the top, accurate presentation of lugers.


Gary Cooper movie about the WW1 hero from the south. I forget the hero's name but he is using a luger in the film.


Saving P Ryan--very very brief glimpses of lugers either in holster or being used in battle. May be P38's the shots are so brief.


Among other recent movies, the English Patient shows at least one if not two Germans carrying lugers. An incredibly dull movie, though.


There are lots of luger movies. I recently saw a TV movie in which the southern crook through his pistol on the seat in the front of his car--you guessed it. He had a luger.

The movie with Gary Cooper was "Sargeant York", showing Cooper using the Luger extensively. Actually, York was using a standard .45, but theÃ?Â*movie folks couldn't get the .45 to chamber blank rounds properly, so they switched to a Luger which chambered the blanks like a champ. Also, just for historical value, in the movie, York is shown mowing the Germans down with a Springfield '03. In actuality, York was using a P-17 Enfield. What the heck! It was a good movie and everything went "Bang"!

A movie I saw in the early 80s on HBO had Frank Sinatra playing a New York City detective chasing a serial killer who killed people with a mountain climbing pick ax. Sinatra carried a Luger which I found odd because I believe it was filmed in then-modern day 1970s New York. Anybody notice that "Raiders of the Lost Ark" took place in 1937 but the Germans carried MP40s and P38s? Although a great movie, this was another Hollywood gun goof. No Lugers in "Enemy at the Gates" but there is an MP38, which surprised me because these being rarer than the MP40, aren't usually seen in movies.

I have seen the first 45 minutes and no Luger yet! He looks tired, this was his last movie! That pick axe is wicked!

Anybody notice in U-571 that the Germans had Thompson SMG's
 

on board with FOLDING STOCKS! instead of MP38's or 40's!

Mp38 vs MP40? I would have no way of telling the differenc?

The only way to tell the difference between an MP38 and MP 40 is by looking at the receiver. The receiver of an MP38 has grooves and a curled cocking handle. I couldn't tell in U-571 because the scene did not show a close-up of the weapon.
