A Reborn Swiss

Got a parts gun (barrel/receiver from a 1916 DWM, all other parts are Swiss/Bern from 1919) that I wanted to turn into a shooter that looked great, too. Bought a DWM "long" receiver w/Sunburst from LugerDoc, along with a minty .30 Luger Swiss barrel, Swiss mag and some other small parts. I sent the new receiver, barrel and my toggle train to G.T. in AZ; he did an outstanding job fitting the barrel and checking headspace, using my toggle train. He also added a new front sight that shot to POA with no "hold-off".

Still had some minor fitting issues (wrong main spring and some tightness in the frame rails) that Gerald took care of after I dropped my gun off last week. It now functions perfectly. Time for the last phase...cosmetics. As soon as I take a few more pictures, the receiver and barrel are off to Thor for a rust-blue. I'll post pictures of the completed gun when it comes back from Ted (Thor). Can't say enough about the work that Gerald did-and he's a nice guy, too!

Before. Somewhat battered-up, with a DWM receiver and 9mm barrel http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...psjzlzdurw.jpg

Back from Gerald (G.T.), ready for fitting and test-fire on my frame

Ready for shipping to Ted (Thor) for rust bluing of the barrel/receiver. This will be a great Luger range-gun; it groups to POA at 15 yards. Stocks were VERY nicely redone by our own Jim Solomon http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...psyou1n0nn.jpg

Nice story and a very desirable and great looking shooter, indeed. :)

Bob,

I think that you are going to be very pleased with the end results. I congratulate you on this "build". Enjoy!!

Looking good, Bob. Shooters are great fun because we can do pretty much whatever we want to them!

I like it, nice job.

Here's another photo...from a rest, 20 yards, center hold. The flyer was my fault. Testing is complete; now the upper receiver/barrel is off to Thor. This will be my range queen. The ultimate Swiss shooter!

It is hard to argue with results like that!!

Nice, NICE!

That gun has a frame to receiver fit that is just insanely close! There was just enough clearance for it to go together?.... I mean .001" or even.0005" over anywhere, .........and it would be stuck tight.... I can't wait to see it after Thor works some magic on it! ... That is about as neat a shooter as you can find? Something about those long, thin, small diameter barrels that just screams art work!...... Man those guys had good taste?... Best to all, and thank you Robert, til...lat'r.....GT...

BTW, the magazine in the Swiss is a new MEC-GAR that worked well with the unit... it has the recently deep dished knobs modification... works great at the range.. very positive feel... GT

It IS snug...but slick. I had quite a few failures of the toggle to snap home...at first. A touch of my thumb seated the toggle. After about 20-25 rounds, the toggle started seating without assistance. No more issues. Damn, this thing shoots well!

G.T. did some incredible work on this pistol. And I got to see several early mint P38s and a gorgeous Kreighoff P08 from Gerald's collection when I visited. I'll be back later with the finished gun; we gotta shoot it together after a lunch of man-food and Mexican Cokes.
Bob

Perfect receiver to frame fit. Nice work Gerald!
