Not really common, but not scarce either.
Here aresome different shots of my 1917/1920; which also has Navy grip markings. Welcome to the board. |
I have a 1917/1920 DWM which apparently started life as an LP.08--the notch on the receiver to accommodate the rear sight leaf of an artillery barrel is there. Although it has no sear safety or mag safety remnants, I'm thinking that since it came with a holster converted from military to police, it was re-barreled with the 4" 9mm for police use somewhere where it escaped the addition of the police safeties. The numbers on the barrel match the rest of it, but they are a slightly different font. The barrel was finished after the numbers and Nazi eagle proof were applied--they display no relief/halos, etc. and are blued over.
One of these days, I'll put up some pix... The right side of the barrel extension has six proof/acceptance marks! I definitely would not stake my life on my assessment, but I think the pistol has had quite a journey, particularly through the Wiemar and early Third Reich days. |

And then direct OP to the Treaty of Versailles in the FAQ??? I've been here ~7 years and this is still confusing...Especially when the chamber has only a "1921" stamp... :( |
