1937 mismatch question.

Been away from the lugers for awhile, but came across a mis matched 1937 pistol. The upper and lower match but the toggle train is a dmw and the side plate doesnt match.
What got me curious is the serial number is just the 4 digits and no letter underneath. The barrel matches the upper and lower, however there isnt the bore diameter stamped on it. Is this correct?
Its not a collectable, im looking at it as a shooter. The aftermarket mag doesnt hold open the toggle. It does have import stamp on the frame. Probably been reblued at one time. I can get it for $800. Does that sound reasonable? No warranty of course. I just dont see too many lugers available locally and thinking of adding this one to the collection. Thank you. Jim

Welcome back.

Pictures would be helpful.

Then those with expert knowledge here could comment better.

Once you're talking about a mixed parts Luger, the concept of "correct" is lost for the most part...

Sounds like a RC import. $800 would be a fair market price if it actually shoots reliably.

But... it sounds like you at least have issues with the magazine and hold open...

Be sure that it's guaranteed to function properly before you consider it further...

Im pretty sure its a as is sale. Ive got a couple functioning original mags I can take with me when I go look at it later this week again. If its still available and I can get it for $750 I may just go for it. It does have a replaced take down lever. Jim

Sounds like a good plan to me; as long as the bore is nice.;)

Does the lack of the bore diameter under the barrel mean its a replacement barrel?

Quite likely, though there are some exceptions.

Without some close up pictures of the pistol, even if it isn't a collectible, I'm afraid you can only expect assumptions and not reliable comments.

Looking forward to your photos!

Thanks. The pistol is at a pawn shop and talking to the counter guy he said the longer it sits the price will come down. Sunday the price was $800 out the door im going to stop in friday with my magazine and if its still there ill see if they will do $750 out the door and I just might buy it. I looked at it a week ago and went home to think about it. Found a romanian PSL with a scope and four magazines for $700 plus a mosin rifle I bought for $100. So I ended up with the psl. Then the next day a guy was selling a nickel plated 1941 byf luger all matching for $770. By the time I called he already had someone on their way to buy it. Ive always wanted a chrome plated luger so I was a bit disappointed I missed out on that one. One thing I have learned is patience when it comes to buying stuff. Theres usually deals out there, if you have cash available when they pop up. Jim

Quick update. Went and looked at the pistol again last week. The toggle open issue was the aftermarket magazine. I pushed up on the mag and the toggle locked back fine. The toggle assembly was a earlier assembly, the upper and lower matched but the small parts were all mismatched. I decided I would pay $800 out the door this afternoon, so cash in hand I go and its already sold.
So the hunt continues.....jim

Good luck then, there is no hurry, buy quality first as they say.
