1900 Swiss SN Placement?

In RIAC's upcoming auction I noticed a 1900 Swiss that has the last two digits of the SN on the back side (right side of the pistol) on the take down lever and the mag release button, is this correct and if so should they all be marked like that or just the early release pistols? My Swiss SN 2512 is not marked this way.

My swiss 1900 in the 2800 serial number range has the 2 digits on the rear toggle in that position, but nothing stamped on the end of the take down lever or magazine release.

Thank you Marc, appreciate your response. I noticed also that the one in the RIAC sale was "Refurbished" wonder if that is when the last two digits were added?

The very early guns were marked in that manner. I don't recall when they stopped marking them that way...for the Swiss I think it was around serial #1000 or close to it. The marking on the magazine release was the first to go. The US Test trials guns still had the serial number on the right round of the take down lever until after #7100, then it shifted to the left side flat. The digits on the RIA piece were not added, it was made that way.

Thanks Ron, seems like the longer I stay in this hobby the less I know.

My 1900 (SN-1284) is marked on the RS of the takedown leaver with 84 also the mag. release button.

Hugh,
Is your #1284 Swiss Military, Swiss Commercial or Commercial?

hayhugh 03-26-2016 01:22 PM

Ron, I took it to be a Commercial, but what do I know. What is the easiest way to tell the difference? I bought it at auction (RIA) a few years back.

My 1900 Swiss military is serial number 1327. The take down lever and the magazine release are both marked 27 on the pistol right side.

Sorry Ron, we have already had this dance: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=34986
I marked it down this time....

My early 1900 DWM American Eagle # 7234 take down lever is marked with the last two digits; the American Eagle # 14124 bears the last two digits on the plate; the older Swiss hasn't got any Bern cross behind the toggle, while my later 1900 military Swiss # 2238 does it but none of the pistols has got the rear sight altered from "V" to "U".
As Lon rightly said the longer I stay in this hobby the less I know...

Happy Easter to all.

I'm pretty sure the Commercials are BUG proofed and the Militaries have a small Swiss Cross on the left side of the barrel and receiver.
