I don't know what it is...

...But I want one! :p
I've been driving by the Pendleton Town Hall for 30+ years on the way to "the big city" and see this 'gun' in front...It looks about 4-5 feet tall, might make a nice lawn ornament... :) Today I stopped, but only had crappy cell phone to take pics... It is huge! :eek: About eight feet tall, two tractor-style seats, two sets of sights (each side), lotsa handwheels, levers, and almost every separate piece has a metal tag riveted on... If I'm reading the NAVORDSYSCOM tags right, it's a three inch gun. Too many tags to take pics of, and too soggy to walk all around. :( I'll be picking up my TV from the repair shop down the road in a week or so and I'll take better pics. :thumbup: In the meanwhile, can any of you old salts say what it is and what it would have been mounted on??? WWI or WWII??? I discarded my idea of a lawn ornament... :crying: |
Looks like a Gato Class sub 3/50 deck gun.

I was tempted to sit in one of the seats and see if I could traverse it, but I chickened out... :evilgrin: |

Edit. I just checked Wikipedia, the Gatos did indeed use them. Many other crafts too. |
150" = approx 12 foot barrel length.
Looks about right, in the Army it would likely have been called a 75mm instead of 3". |
Often relics like that deck gun have welding to keep them from traversing... it if does move, it would be a blast (pun intended) to sit on it and crank the handle. I remember doing that at an American Legion post when I was very young...
