42 byf barrel marking question
4 Attachment(s)
Good evening all, curious about this p.08 barrel marking. The seller sent me these pictures of a marking I have not seen on the under side of the barrel yet. Is it an import mark of some kind? It appears to say Kal 9mmP.
Thanks. Tough to see, but to my eyes looks like a British proof. A better close-up would help. Either way, it is a post war stamp.

I'm trying real hard, and I can't make out the marking details in your photos.
Indicating the caliber on the gun is typically part of an import marking. Caliber 9mm Parabellum is what they would be indicating. The symbol above the serial number digits could be part of an importer's mark. |
Johnnie... I find the none of the photos to be in clear enough focus to read the stamp even under high magnification. I would ask the seller to retake the photos in natural light and using a tripod to eliminate camera shake...

I too can not read the markings clearly, but doubt that they are either British or Importer markings. I've seen similar markings in this location, indicating a rebarrelling by a commerical firm for commerical sale, usually post WW2. TH

"_____ Hammock" ? with double "W" stamp?
I was thinking it might be a Swiss barrel. What's the length, I wonder ? |
The seller stated it was FWW next to that other marker, waiting on better pictures now but the barrel is matching to the receiver. It has all the makings of being a black widow.

I found this reference for FWW and a similar report (Dec 2015).

It does appear that multiple strikes created that mark in the barrel, and possibly too close to each other. Thanks for sharing this one - hope then forward some better pictures! |
Thanks Mac! So what do you guys think, would that help, hurt or make no difference to the value?
Thanks JD |
The extra markings do not help with the value.
|
I'd need to see better photos so the stamp's purpose could be determined first, but until we clear that up I'd consider the marking to hurt the value a bit.

If I'm not wrong, the logo of Franconia Waffen Wurzburg a German large dealer/importer in sporting goods company should be like two W on top of each other.
I wish I could see a better picture of the above mentioned Luger. |
