My first Luger, DWM shooter

New user and first post. I have loved Lugers since I was a teenager. It took me until age 59 to finally get a chance to get one. Funny story, this Luger showed up at a local gun shop and I was looking at it. Went back a couple days later and it was gone. Shop owner said someone had put it in a layaway and was making payments for it. Fast forward to Christmas and i found out who, it was my wife and kids!

I'll try to get up pics. DWM serial number 9690 no suffix. Toggle mismatched number, Mcgar magazine. Came with 2 sets of plastic grips and a pair of black pearl grips with wood backing. I suspect it is a police gun due to the sear safety. Great shooter, most accurate handgun I have ever shot and the most comfortable to hold as well

I can't quite figure out the proof markings. Can anyone give me any info on this gun.

Thanks you.
Max

Commercial gun, that went into police service (see sear safety on the left)

the 'unit marking' is not known to me

welcome to the forum

Thank you. I thought that might be the case.

Max, The horizontal C/N proofing on the receiver and breech block and the brown plastic grips would indicate a DDR rework (perhaps a new DDR barrel installed) as well as the VOPO marking on the take down lever. TH

First off welcome to this LUGER Forum.

Nice gun, and nicer story, that Luger must be a "keeper" even if it isn't the most rare nor the most expensive Luger, it's anyway a beautiful present!

Best.

Enjoy your Christmas present to the most.

In addition to the sear safety, it once had a police magazine safety. It also had a serial number letter suffix which appears to have been struck out, perhaps by the VOPO.

There are several known pistols with grip strap markings beginning with ST. but these are largely unidentified.

Thank you all very much. I really appreciate the information.

Yeah, it was a nice story. The gun shop guys were in on it the whole time. In fact, one called and told me that he messed up the FFL paperwork on the Kahr CM-9 I bought a week before and needed me to come in and redo it. Turns out the "Redo" was the paperwork for the luger purchase since I am the only member of the family with an Illinois FOID card. They had me open it at the gun shop so the guys there could be in on it.
