Grips restored!
 

Jim Solomon was given a difficult task. I had original grips on a 1926 Simson - someone had messed with them, trying to make them better, but really screwed them up.

This 1926 Simson was in Ralph Shattucks collection, and he had never had them restored, or the gun ;) I had looked at this at his house in 2003 and a couple of other times.

I have eleven 1926 dated Simsons in my database, out of 628 records. Of those 11 - 3 I do not believe were originally 1926 (all out of range, too early or too high serial numbers).

The decision was, try to bring them back to original look or leave as is?

I decided to send them to Jim and he did an outstanding job, really brought them to life without making them look too new (I was very picky and I think he almost sent them back!)

To me, that is a "natural" improvement. I would be most pleased with this result if they were my grips.

Excellent work. I'm sending off a set of Swiss stocks with the border for Jim to work his magic on tomorrow. I see nothing wrong in work like this on an otherwise original gun; it definitely improves the looks! Thanks for the photos.

Jim does great work.

I have sent him a couple for million dollar chip repairs and a little touch up; each time he seems to have read my mind(not difficult cause there is not much in there) and done the job I "wanted".

Better, but not new. New just doesn't always fit with the rest of the piece.

Here's another set that Jim did...just got these in. Beautiful work, but they don't have the "new" look. Perfect match for my Swiss rebuild project. Thanks Jim!

Ooooh! I like those.

There's just "something" about his checkering! Put a couple coats of TruOil on them and they *will* look brand new!

I had him checker the TINY rosewood grips on my NAA .22 short revolver. Not only did they turn out beautiful; but for the very first time I actually can hit the broad side of a barn with that SLR (Silly Little Revolver)!
