Carbine Sling Mounting
This may not be possible, but I will ask anyway.:burnout: Has anyone seen how a sling could be attached to a 1920 carbine without a wood fore stock?

Dick, I have seen them with a block welded to the barrel to screw in a sling swivel. Or one could fashion a clamp on the barrel in the right place..like a scope ring? Either of these methods would NOT be good for a carbine already built..You could loop one end of the sling around the barrel but it would slide around..either to the sight or to the receiver..I can't think of any good way? You ever end up with the Pat N. Carbine? That one had a fore stock/end last time I saw it.

I am thinking that there were some slings that were leather on the end and they had a loop - it would still slide around, but better than nothing ;)

I would think a sling made with a nice laced piece around thee barrel would not be that hard to make.

Crocheting the lace would be the hard part..but on second thought it's a good idea. The WW1 German Cavalry used a leather sling on lances they carried. It was held to the round/pole lance with a "turks head" knot. This type of knot encircles the round lance pole and when pulled tight it grasps it quite firmly. Put on properly it probably wouldn't slide much.

IF a Pakistani made a half dozen repro's and WAS able to find any buyers for their cheap crap they would have them for a decade. BECAUSE carbines are exceedingly rare. There is almost NO MARKET! Rare items are like that. As for Luger lanyards? No one but CMR sells what they say is a Luger lanyard but it's almost like a bootlace. These repro idiots don't know what a Luger carbine strap looks like. I guess Rich doesn't either. When I was in England (long ago), I stopped into a London sporting/shooting goods store. I saw there a sling that had a small noose at the barrel end, and IIRC, the butt end accommodated a sling swivel mounted as usual on the butt stock. The pop-off fore stocks don't really lend themselves to the stable/sturdy mounting of a swivel--and they are often very skinny. The loop would go over the barrel first, then attached to the butt swivel. In this way it did not slip off the front, and no damage was done to either wood or metal. It was quite nicely made, and made me want to get a shotgun just so I could buy one of these for it!

I wanted to post a rare original carbine sling Jerry found me many years ago! I'm having Jerry make me a new one. The original has become far too weak!

Thank you all for your advice. The combination of Doug and Eric’s suggestions was more in line with what I had in mind. I believe that in the distant past this combination was in a picture. A lace sling might be of interest if I was into the steampunk thing. Consider the possibilities, Naa! I like the appearance of the real thing not some ones wet dream. |
