Mitch,

Welcome to the Forum.

In 1941, the German Authorities changed Mauser's manufacturer code from 42 to byf. Prior to its being 42, it was S/42.

Therefore both 1941 and 1942 production of Model P.08s were stamped byf on the center toggle link. The 41 and 42 on the chamber refer to year of production.

FYI, there were about 129,000 41 byfs made and about 109,000 42 byfs produced.

Hope this helps.

John

PS: Not to confuse things; but due to delays in getting drawings and new regulations out to the factory, there were actually some P.08s in early 1941 stamped 41 on the chamber and 42 on the toggle link.
