German carbine?
 

Don't have photo and was shown pic on smartphone. Seemed to be a carbine with two triggers. Claimed his dad brought it back from WW2 and it is full auto. Any idea what it might be?

Both Beretta 38 and 42 submachineguns have two triggers. One for semi and the other for full auto. They are not the only examples so designed. They were widely used by German Paratroopers during World War Two.

I'm guessing that's what your friend has.

Hopefully he had it registered during the amnesty or just sitting on it is a felony accompanied with 10 years in a federal penitentiary waiting to happen.

I don't know the guy personally. He was down visiting a winter visitor. Doubt he is aware of an amnesty. Already left but how would he go about rectifying his dilemma? I told him that I thought a special license was required and he said he did not know about it until his dad passed. Just what is required and what are the regulations - cost, renew how often, license for each weapon, etc?

From what I understand, You can request to see if it was ever registered with the BATF. If yes, then the paperwork would be at his house (hopefully), if NOT, then its illegal and the only recourse is to try and get a museum to accept it or police department. Its an illegal sub-gun...
