Grip Screw thread size
Anyone know the thread size for the grip screw I have to tough the hole in the grip frame.
Thanks 5card |
It's a long obsolete Whitworth thread. A gunsmith who works on Lugers should have the correct tap.

Check back in 2011........"question on grip screw". A search should bring up the thread.

The thread size for the grip retention screws on original German Luger pistols: 3/16" x 30 TPI Whitworth 55 degree threads.

Jim thanks for the heads up, I read the posts looks like 3/16 32 worked for that fellow and I am going to give it s try,
Thanks again, 5card |
Ok,
so which is it? 30 tpi or 32 tpi? Whitworth understood. |
The standard thread pitch for a Whitworth 3/16 fastener is 24. For a fine thread Whitworth in 3/16, it's 32.
FYI, just search "Whitworth thread fine" and you should be able to fine a chart. |
According to the drawings and documented in Sturgess' book, it's 30tpi. It is not a standard screw.

Weird if it is 30. I can understand a non-conventional thread when a design needs it, but for a grip screw? Makes zero sense.
