Böhler Barrel

Several Lugers with the Böhler Barrel have been depicted here, but this one came to my attention thanks to forum member lugercollector [Peter Dunster] from his site -

The bore looks near mint. Chamber reads 1914. What is interesting to me is the mark on the barrel top and the old-style chamber with the 'ring'. Bore condition would indicate little firing for a 1914; chamber ring indicates OEM barrel. :)

Chamber mouth/feed ramp is quite wider than my Mauser barrels; and the "C" stamped on the left side of the breech is intriguing...

This barrel has the '30' hardness stamp. Others I've seen here were stamped '32'. Normal holster wear on left side of barrel.

Also has an "8" and a "5" stamped inside the dovetail. It's curious to me as I don't recall other Luger barrels I've handled having stamps inside the dovetail. Maybe Böhler just liked to stamp things???

I've had a couple Böhler Barrels pass through my hands but until now all were longer-than-100mm commercials, with the maker/location script stamped on the side of the barrel.

This is quite cool. My Thanks! to Peter!

In one of the books (maybe Jan Still Central Powers), it talks about boehler barrels, I remember adding to the listing - mostly 1914 lugers, some others. You'll see BOxx (xx equals the hardness)

I forgot to mention that the muzzle is unblued; maybe original but it also looks worn...From pushing into the holster???

What part of the Luger does the strap in the holster contact???

The muzzle should be unblued.

Sheepherder,

The mark on the top of the barrel is the Reichsadler proofmark and belongs there. The "old-style" chamber with the ring is common to all pre-war and WWI vintage lugers.

A little off topic, but would the wider chamber mouth / feed ramp help when using hollow points?

I would think so. It helps on M1911's, with wadcutters and semi-wadcutters. :)

The comment was made elsewhere that the number following the "Bö" was the steel hardness. Here is a comment on that from Chap 7 of Görtz & Sturgess TBLAP -
