Haven't seen this one before.

Some have joked that this was Ralph Shattuck sorting inventory in his basement :), but I believe that this is a GI who is Cherry Picking the guns he intends to ship home. Nice work if you could get it.

Seems to be looking for a missing mag?

He's "shopping" for another long barreled luger, like the one in his hand!;)

At first I thought it was a Radom, but the grip shape/angle isn't radical enough for a Radom...

Since it is in a pile of "enemy" weapons, more likely it is a Norwegian M1914. JMHO.

Jimmy Stewart!!

It's Simpson's advance buying agent...

After all, this weekend is the 40th anniversary of the "Time Warp"!

I have an original of this photo. It's a press photo and mine is marked on the rear something to the effect of "Norway - 1945".

Bingo!

George Anderson 10-30-2015 09:38 AM

From the reverse:

"In a former German arsenal in Oslo, Norway
Pvt. Herman Stanley, White Plains, NY count
German Lugers, P38s and other ammunition
confiscated fro ?????by American Troops
7/10/45"

There is additional printing that reads something to the effect of "Please Distribute" but the rest is faded and lost to time.

Diver6106 10-30-2015 03:12 PM

Better copy on from the web...

... you can find anything on the web... Now everyone can count Lugers to go to sleep, instead of sheep. Except Sheepherder...

Looks like they are ready to throw hand grenades (potato masher type) and have frame throws at the ready - must be time related "Crowd Control"

Really interesting picture.
I can't believe this is a anti-riot unit. Using flame throwers in a city, could have unintended consequences!
Like a major fire.
Perhaps a posed demo exercise? Although no one is spectating?
On 2nd thought,I don't think I would want to be anywhere near a operating flame thrower either.

Interesting article about the Spartacist uprising/revolt/strike.
Looks like most of these pics came from this period.

Learned something new!:)

The helmets shown in these pics make the soldaten look kind of goofy to me. Though I realize that the military headgear has changed over time, regime, and different purposes/jobs, I'm not particularly familiar with this evolution, so sorry if my observation seem uninformed--it is!

Yup, that guy is a monster... It might be pointing out the flame thrower. Its business end is just below center oval, and I can make out the hose hanging behind him. They wore no special protective gear?
