Odd Toggle Marking

Has anybody ever seen a middle toggle link stamping of a single "S" aligned along the bore axis, rather than read from the side?
It is on a "41" chambered Mauser and seems to match the gun.
That's all I know for the moment.

Doug, as the auction link proposes... I have seen such toggles many years ago, and I also think this is a Simson produced toggle that was used to "repair" the Mauser. Not likely that it left the factory that way. Probably because it was number matched to the gun, and the toggle it replaced was not. An attempt to boost the value of the gun by someone uneducated in Lugers who didn't realize the manufacturing mismatch.

Hi John,

The toggle link with the "S" on the Luger in question has the serial scrubbed off, so it is clearly a replacement and an attempt to boost the gun.

Thanks

Doug

Post photos if you get the chance Doug. The more evidence we make public about how boosting takes place, the better educated the Luger collecting community is... Forewarned is forearmed.
