1936 s/42 from gunbroker
I've been in the market for a nice vet bringback third Reich luger for the last couple months. I've been watching gunbroker and came upon this:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=512603275 I realize I paid high retail for it, but I wanted something that was brought here as war trophy and not just an import. Capture papered examples were scarce, and when found were expensive. This one has about 90% original finish remaining and the strawed parts are gorgeous. As a bonus the seller sold me an FXO bakelite bottom magazine in excellent condition for $100, and has all the vet's military and family contact information. I love it. I realize the plaque may hurt the collector's value for some, but it appears it could be removed easily. I'm keeping it as-is, it just talks to me. I will provide a range report once I take her out. |
love at first sight............!!!
your choice is your business.......enjoy your Luger.......Tom |

First off welcome to this Forum of Luger enthusiasts. In fact I don't really see the reason to stick a plaque like that, in any case congratulations on your first pistol and enjoy it. Best, |
I think for the price you got a really nice example of a Luger. Looks to be in excellent condition and while the plaque may not add value to the gun for a collector purist, I think it is a nice historical touch.

I don't see anything wrong with the price. I've seen plenty of worse guns go for more!

welcome to the forum. that is a super nice p08, if it were mine I would leave the plaque on it , does not hurt a thing , congrats

Congrats on your FIRST P08 luger. These handguns have a habit of multiplying for some unknown reason. If you plan to shoot it, stick with std. velocity ammo like WWB 115gr FMJ, PMC 115gr FMJ etc, no NATO or +P ammo. Let us know how it performs for you.

Hi, Looks like a good example of a 1936 Luger.
You got it for a normal collector price, especially if it's all original, in original finish and matching. You might carefully remove the plate. It looks like the adhesive may have affected the finish on the edges (seem in the white) so you may find a mess under it. Most gum adhesives can be removed using WD-40 to slowly dissolve the glue. Same chemical as "GooGone". If you remove the plate, don't leave the WD-40 on the gun. Be sure to clean it and lubricate it with a good preserving gun oil like RemOil. |
