Newbie Question
Looking for a P.08 shooter. Would prefer mostly matching numbers, but not all. Overall good condition, but not a collector piece.
Just got outbid on gunbroker. Dropped out at 1800, and the piece went for over 2200. What should I expect to spend? |
Basically, anywhere from a few hundred, to about $1,200--depending on how pretty it is--for a shooter. If you want a shooter, there is no need to lay down much more than that, just be patient. Keep an eye on our WTS section, where viable shooters are passed along at reasonable prices fairly frequently.

$700-$900 is very doable. More than that and you're overspending.
If you are looking for a collector piece to shoot, fine, but if you damage it, the collector value could 'shot'... |

If you're looking for a shooter who cares about how many matching numbers you've got? A shooter should be basically "safe to shoot" and possibly pretty accurate. If I were you I would simlpy look for an unmatching russian capture P.08 dated 1942 in good shape so I wouldn't overspend and I could enjoy it at the range. More to that remember that old Lugers should never be fired with modern high speed and high power ammunition. Shoot safe. Rgds Sergio |
IF you are looking for a "Navy" or "Arty" shooter, then you will have to pay more than the 8-900 range. A std P08 Luger in the shooter category will go for $800-1000 in my part of the Country.
