Artillery question

I have an artillery with crown jss. Serial is 48 no suffix . It's not a 1914 right?

DonVoigt 08-10-2015 09:31 PM

What is the date over the chamber?

Edward Tinker 08-10-2015 10:34 PM

We need more information?

Just saying the possible acceptance markings does not help us.

DWM? Erfurt?

Matching?

Pictures, written description please.

It's dwm. Matched but reblued. Chamber date 1918, I'm thinking of having it restored especially if it's a 1914 but with the research I have done I'm just more confused.

What's confusing is your use of "1914" with artillery. This is a hang-over from Datig's book years ago wherein he referred to all artilleries as "model 1914 artillery" just as he identified all P08s with stock lugs as "model 1914 Lugers". Artilleries are artilleries or LP08s and military 4" Lugers are P08s.

A 1918 DWM is not particularly rare gun and the cost of restoration may get you up-side-down in a hurry. I'd either buy original finish or live with re-blue. Artilleries are a hoot to shoot, so there is a good market for refinished "shooters".

The chamber date is 1917 . Is it a game changer?
Also I would have a nice shooter price even after restoration IMHO
thanks

1917 is the most common DWM artillery date, so it is kind of a "negative" changer.

You should really post some pictures!

1918. 1917. What's the difference? It's been reblued, never to be original again.
