70th Anniversary!

Seventy years ago today the United States taught Japan and the world the price of attacking us. It also resulted in my Dad coming home from Manila rather than preparing to go to Japan.

Little known history fact: The United States, not Japan, invented fried rice.

I've been watching the ceremonies on NHK, but always think of the millions killed in Korea and China by the Japanese invasions, not to mention the rest of Asia in Imperial Japan's attempt to form the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere." I think Japan still has a way to go to fess up to history. I don't fault Truman's decision to save all the lives from an Allied invasion, and CERTAINLY JAPAN should bless it's lucky stars for all the Japanese degradation an invasion would have costs. Just like guns, the Bomb saved lives. But the liberal press don't seem to mention these facts, just the 'atomic maidens.'

Bill

With all the respect, I'm not Japanese, and I'm not one of the "moderators", I realize it was only a joke but in my modest opinion wasn't very funny.

Best regards.

My father, who spent the entire European war in Algiers, had just been deployed via San Francisco and Hawaii to the Japanese theater when this ended things.

I'm probably here today thanks to quickly ending the war in Japan.

Each time I visit his field of stones in Arlington, more and more have grown into the distance...

My dad was inthe 506th PIR and was gearing up to head to the Pacific when they lit it up.

Don't find a lot of humor in it, though.
