1920 Commercial .30 Luger Question
 

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum, and thought I get started by asking a question about my newly acquired .30 commercial Luger. The Luger came complete with a nice hardshell holster, and all matching numbered parts, with the exception of the mag. The mag appears to be an aftermarket type. The wooden grips are very nice and have matching numbers as well. Now for my question. Is the safety lever supposed to have a serial number visible on the outside? Also, I was wondering if the safety lever on the commercial Luger was supposed to be straw colored? This one appears to be a mottled blue. Other than that everything seems quite nice. Just replaced the original poor photos, with a photo that depicts my reason for this post. Never gave the missing white paint much thought, until a member mentioned it. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, it's rather hard to make out detail in your photos.

If I remember correctly, the safety lever was not numbered on these commercial pistols.

It was normally strawed, but sometimes this can darken naturally over the years.

It looks to me as if all the normally strawed parts are about the same color which would be just the natural ageing process .=(Patina)

Your pictures are rather dark and I think it's quite difficult to express a correct opinion, for what I can see it looks like a nice gun with some onest wear.

The last photo shows no white paint in the GESHERT, unusually light drag marks from the safety lever, and bluing on the lever itself. I'm wondering if someone hasn't put some cold bluing on that area? Give it the sniff test.

A commercial 30 Luger does not have the mag numbered to the Luger....they are a wooden base without numbers. To my knowledge(limited at best), the grips on a commercial should not be numbered to the luger. I own a couple of commercials that are original and neither has numbered grips.

Thank you for your comments. The grips on this commercial Luger contain the last 2 digits of the serial number. Still not sure about the lack of white lettering in the word Gesichert.
