My little Luger family

I have decided to share my little Luger collection. The top one is a 16" barreled .30cal (someone's wackadoo creation) that has a nice refinish and is dated 1917/1920. The Navy has also been refinished at some point but has an unnumbered side plate. The barrel is also without numbers. The Erfurt 9mm is the gem, original finish with every single part having matching numbers including the magazine. It is a 9mm dated 1916 and was brought back by a friends grandpa after WW1. The bottom one is a baby Luger conversion in 9mm dated 1911 that was never modified to have the empty mag hold open mechanism. I'm talking to Neil Keller to see if he by chance did the conversion. I know the photo quality isn't excellent but I have difficulty getting images from my Canon transferred to the Internet. I shot 35mm film until two years ago, so I'm still behind the times in most respects. I hope you've enjoyed seeing my little collection.

Does the 16" function properly what with that long a barrel? Was any spring work involved?

Hi Domenico, I'd like to add my welcome to the forum. Your Navy Luger in particular interests me as I maintain a data base of these guns. Does yours have a date on the chamber, on the left frame rail and on the left side of the front sight block, and if so, what is it? Also, please let me know the full serial number with suffix letter if present, on the front of the frame.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! This forum has a real wealth of information and I am glad to be a part of it.
On the double date 16" I tried it out with 93 grain loads and it still does not cycle the action as expected. I bet if we chronographed the shots there is some velocity loss going on. I'm more tempted to switch the barrel than I would be to try and get the 16" barrel working. I got the gun fairly cheap so I'm not heartbroken over it.
The Navy Luger shot really well today. The frame is stamped 1917 but the barrel is without markings, ditto the front sight base. It's a nice tight grouper. The frame is 4882a. The upper has no markings aside from DWM on the toggle.
The baby Luger was a delight on the range. I expected it to be balky but it shot through several mags without a hiccup. 115grain Winchester white box was used. I don't know who made it. It has GL on the rear toggle. I will try to upload some photos tonight. The weld on the rear of the frame is a little visible but well finished. The grips are beautifully spliced.
Feel free to ask any questions. I will try to get some pictures of the 1916 Erfurt as it has never been refinished and every single number matches. I have the holster too but it is without any markings.

GL on the rear toggle? .....oh boy, you're going to have a herd of people here going nuts for some pics!

Sorry guys, I haven’t been on here in ages. I still have no idea who made the baby Luger. It’s a great shooter though. I’m guessing Martz? Maybe? It’s a 1911 that was never retrofit for the hold open.

I have a couple other Lugers too, I’ll add them later. My original love, will always be Mosins. I think I have sixty now. And heaven help me, I’m going after Cold War communist handguns with a new passion. I don’t think I’ll ever find a PSM in 5.45x18 though. I’d trade some mighty choice guns for one of those.

Any chance you could post a photo of the baby Luger with the grips removed?
I would be really interested in seeing the mainspring and guide in it.
I’m working on getting mine going 100% at the moment.

Mine is maker marked under the grips, have you checked for this?

Here you go guys. I’ve checked near everywhere on this one for a sign of who made it. It could be staring me straight in the face?

I bought it years ago from Simpson LTD and paid a pretty healthy asking price, but it just never lets me down. I’ve put a lot more ammo through it than my other Lugers and honestly wouldn’t mind having another mag or two for it! I haven’t tried (nor will I) and ammo with loony chamber pressures, but everything reasonable feeds and functions great in this little pocket Luger. The dimensions are wonderful too.
