Siamese Lugers

I heard that when the Siamese Lugers were imported by Odin the shipment sat outdoors on the dock for months before clearing customs.

Does anyone know if this is fact or fantasy?

Hi,

I don't know about the Lugers setting outside in the open, but I do remember Odin bringing them in and selling them at the Slatters Armory in Alexandria Virginia.

My discussion with an advanced Luger collector was regarding the overall well used finish condition of the Siamese pistols. His story about the outdoor dockside storage which caused the poor finish and rust was new to me.

Some years ago I recall seeing a Siamese Artillery Banner Luger in very nice condition with blue and strawed parts. This memory snapshot has made me consider if the dockside storage is true and the cause of the condition of most of the Siamese Luger we see.

Dick

This story about pistols left outdor dockside storage is absolutely new to me, last year I saw one of them in absolutely gorgeous conditions, and as far as I know they belonged to a contract honoured by Mauser between 1936 and 1938.

Never heard that story before Dick. I wouldn't put in credence into it. Even if they were stored on a dock somewhere, pistols would have likely been in a crate designed for their safe transport, and protected from the elements, or packed in grease, etc. Just an old collector's wives tale IMHO.
