1918 Erfurt
|
I'm not seeing any problems with originality. The buckle and strap on the holster trouble me, it's almost like the strap was sewn on in "police" fashion, but the buckle was not. Probably just the angle, or my lack of education.
Certainly pretty unusual to find 2 matching mags. Didn't notice, but were the grip screws "Erfurted"? Or maybe they stopped that prior to 1918. Anyway, I'll be interested to see what the other more esteemed members have to say on it. dju |
Richard,
I saw that one too. I like it as it appears to have been "re-barreled and/or re-framed". With the C/rc and C/X markings on the once spare barrel and the C/(B spare part marking on the frame. I need an expert to explain those markings for sure, but that is what i have read. I was/am turned off by the crack in the holster flap, but at the right price??? |
Yeah, agree with both of you.
I like: -all matching -hard to really tell if the screws are Erfurt. -2 matching mags -though scuffed up -matching grips with imperial stamp -nice -The tool with the C/W Don't like the holster; I'd probably sell that as I already have nice 1918 holsters. Overall, I think the condition is in line with a 1918 Erfurt. I can see some milling and machining marks (expected) and the blue is weak. But, from the pictures, there does not appear to be any pitting. Don't know if I will bid on this or pass and wait for a nicer one. I expect that this will get a lot of attention and bidding will be strong. Richard |
Gun look clean, original, very good - almost excellent condition. I don't see many issues, other than the unfortunate heavy wear spot on top of the toggle, and the trigger looks rough and scratched up, but then it is a late war Erfurt. The sear spring should be gray, but it looks white. The straw on the safety lever sure looks original. The matching mags look fine, I don't think they are too scuffed up for a WWI gun.
IMO the current bid of $2875 is getting close to what it is worth, I wouldn't spend too much more unless you REALLY want it. - Geo |
Erfurt stopped proofing screws and mag release during 1916.
I don't know if you could find a much nicer 1918 with 2 mags, most I see are pretty beat up and/or have a rough fit & finish. It will be interesting to see how high it will go. - Geo |
