First Luger/First Post
1 Attachment(s)
Hello all!
I'm a U.S. Military vet who just bought his first Luger. Not sure about this one, I noticed there are a few numbers that don't match. Can y'all let me know something about the Luger and maybe what it's worth? The bore is nice and clean and it shoots great. Kind regards, Chris P.S. It's only allowing me one pic per post. |

Welcome to the forum!
It looks like an honest, original finish, mismatched?, (you don't show or mention the mismatched parts) Mauser made Luger. Based on the rough checkering, the grips look like replacements, as well. Are there any markings/numbers inside the grips? Worth $800-$900 in today's market. |
There's a 72 on the back of the side plate and a 70 on the inside back rail of the slide. You can make em out in the pics.
The mag and grips don't match I think. -Chris |
Looks like a well used WWII 3rd Reich Luger. Internal sideplate & mag being different numbers don't make it a mismatch. Non-matching mag is very common. I would consider it all matching, but with replacement grips - not as bad as a total mismatched Luger. But the finish is still worn enough to make it a shooter. $900 it is.

Is there any reason I shouldn't shoot it? Any parts liable to break?
It's a lot of fun to shoot. Thanks everyone for the feedback! -Chris |
Chris
Nice gun, even if usn't really a collectible, it's a nice Luger. Some people think that what is not a collectible must be a"shooter". A shooter is an oldish gun that although not quite interesting to collectors it is safe to shoot; and sometimes old guns are no longer that safe to shoot. So, for your safety have it properly checked by a competent amourer before you shoot it at the range. Enjoy your new Luger and safe shooting. Sergio |
It's already a shooter with some mismatched parts, so shooting it and breaking a numbered part would not greatly impact the value - just the cost of replacing the part.
Use standard velocity ball (FMJ) ammo. Nothing NATO power or + power. Marc |

Just my 2 cents |
I agree with others....shoot it and enjoy it!! They are a hoot to shoot, and quite accurate if you do your job.
