Luger P08 S/42 1936 "o" block
 

Hello,

in the "New Collectors Forum" you could see already three photos of my Luger, because I had a question about a spare magazine.
I write this new post to introduce my first P08, it's a S/42 1936 "o" block. It's all matching, just the magazine has a different serial number, it's 9275 "e"block.

Here are many experts and I'm curious to hear your opinion. What do you think about the condition and the blueing? Maybe you see some interesting details.
If you are interested in a detail and you need a certain photo, please tell me.

I have more experiences with the German K98k rifle, in particular from the company J.P. Sauer & Sohn. About the P08 I have to learn a lot and I'm sure, this forum is the right place. Many thanks!

Hi Stephan, Your 1936 S/42 appears to be a nice original except for the strawed parts which look to have been redone. The magazine, as you know, is from a later gun.

thank you, maybe the strawed parts are original and it's just because of the lighting? I will attach two more photos, in real it doesn't look redone.

Nice gun, probably the light gave to the straw an unnatural shade.
Stephan yours is probably one of the last strawed lugers as they stopped with strawing in mid 1937

Mauser stopped the rust blue/straw about the q block in 1937.

Your o-block pistol was made late in 1936, say November or so. There were only about 85,000 Model P.08s produced by Mauser in 1936, most of them going to the Army. The o-block was next to last block, followed only by the p-block which spilled into 1937.

Late production 1936 P.08s displayed the new S/42 toggle logo. Prior models in 1934 and 1935 displayed an S/42 with the S larger than the 42.

Also 1936 was first year that dates were used on the chamber. Prior Mauser used K and G for 1934 and 1935 respectively; but when Hitler abrogated the Treaty of Versailles in May 1935, all attempts to mislead the Allied Control Commission were abandoned and Germany openly started to rearm itself..

!936 was also the first year that blued bodies for magazines were introduced; around the m-block of production. As previously noted the magazine you show is from later production and is not period correct for the gun.

Otherwise, you have a nice unmolested example of Pre-war Mauser P.08 production.

that helps a lot, thank you very much for the informations. I just have read somewhere the toggle logo changed and now I know when it happened.

All the information was new for me, just with the "K" and "G" I knew before, it's the same with the K98k rifles.

I have to keep my eyes open to find a period correct magazine.
