P 08 Magazine

Hello,

this is my first post in the forum and please excuse my bad English.

Next Wednesday I pick up my first Luger, a matching(just not the magazine) S/42 1936 and when I have it at home, then I will post some photos. Here are experts and I'm curious about your opinion.

Today I bought already online a spare magazine, a Haenel Schmeisser fxo with the SN 69 and WaA37 proof.
I just have this three photos, I hope it's an original and not a fake.

Best regards,
Stephan

Wellcome ,
The bottom aluminium is suspect for me

Can you post a picture of the bottom of the magazine with the markings?

Thank you very much for your replies.

In the next days I get the magazine and then I will post a picture of the bottom of the magazine.

Greetings,
Stephan

Remember that if one photo is good, 5 is probably better.

Stephan, I agree with the above. With the convex pin being installed off center in your aluminum bottom, this is most likely a DDR rework of an original WW2 mag. Tom

fxo bottom

Hi Stephan, Your magazine is a perfect candidate for a replacement "fxo" black Bakelite bottom that both Lugerdoc and I sell.... They are an extremely accurate part, and although not original, they are the same material, and have the same appearance, and are, I would think, at least as desirable as an East German re-work... let one of us know if you'd like to pursue..... best to you, til...lat'r...GT......

Hey, I posted about this and another mag with off-center pin, by the same auction seller. Nobody paid much attention.

My impression is that a factory original mag would not have such a condition, and was wondering who might have fiddled with these, and why. So, the East German rebuilds can sometimes be like this?

John Sabato 06-30-2015 07:17 AM

I am not convinced that an off center pin is evidence of only East German rebuilds, or other re-manufacture. Perhaps those members who have extensive collections of FXO type magazines could post photos of any known genuine original mags that have an offcenter pin? I am virtually sure I have seen and owned original FXO or 122 type mags with this condition in the past.

lugerholsterrepair 06-30-2015 10:33 AM

John is correct IMHO. I have observed this in original German mags. Shocking but true.

Lugerdoc 07-01-2015 01:33 PM

In addition to the off center pins, the DDR mags with usually have large die set digits (as used on Weimar Police replacement mags) with out any suffix or inspection markings. TH

At first, thank you very much for all your replies and the interesting discussion.

I took some photos and I'm sorry for the bad quality, the lighting wasn't good. In the photos you can see the fxo magazine and the 122 magazine which I got with my new P08 S/42 1936. The pistol is matching, just the magazine is not.

What do you think about the fxo magazine? I guess it's a fake. :(

Greetings,
Stephan

Some more photos.

In the next days I will take some detail photos of the P08, when the lighting is better.

magazine fxo

It's not a fake, just an East German rework of a wartime mag... put an original bottom back on and you're good to go!....GT......

Lugerdoc 07-06-2015 08:37 AM

GT would be the guy to install a new "perfect" repro FXO type black plastic bottom in your DDR reworked mag. TH

The 9279e marked magazine is original and about as perfect as can be.

The other one is, as mentioned, the candidate for a bakelite / plastic base replacement. You could, of course, just leave it as is. They make excellent magazines for shooter Lugers.

Your Luger is in superb condition. Congratulations!

8x57IS 07-08-2015 06:53 PM

Thank you for your opinions and I think for now I will let the rework magazine how it is.

@ mrerick
I'm glad you like it, I'm happy with my new Luger. Maybe the lighting/flash make the condition look better in the last photos. I took some more photos and there you can see some little flaws, nevertheless I really like the look.

I will write a new post about my Luger in "All P-08 Military Lugers", I'm curious what you think about the condition and maybe you or another user has some informations for me.
Like I said, I'm a beginner with the P08 and I have to learn a lot.

Best regards,
Stephan
