Matching Toggle Axle
Hello,
I recently spied a pre-WWI 4" DWM military with a matching toggle axle. The axle was a brilliant fire-blue with the last two digits of the serial stamped somewhat off center and it fit rather snugly into the holes ( not sure what they are called ). This Luger did not have the 1920 property stamp. It was my understanding that prior to 1932 Luger axles were not matched. Given that understanding, my thoughts were that this axle must have come from a post 1932 Luger that shared the same last two digits as this pre-WWI DWM military and is therefore a replacement by someone. Thoughts? Richard |
I think your thoughts are correct, it probably is a replacement...or perhaps someone erroneously numbered the original pin because they thought it would make it "proper"
|
Or it was "repaired" after 1932, requiring a rear axle replacement; which was accordingly numbered to the pistol.
I believe the holes are called that, a machinist might call them "bores". |
Thanks Guys for you input.
Bores...OK. |
