Hungarian Guns
 

My Father was escaped Hungary and moved to the US during the revolution in the 50's. He and now I always had a strong draw to anything made in Hungary and guns are no different. I have 2x M95, a Mosin Nagent 48M, Fromer Stop, FEG PA63 currently and im always looking to add to the collection. For reasons unknown to me Hungarian made weapons dont seem to have the value of many other eastern block countries. Thats fine with me. Quality is good and I dont have a problem shooting and enjoying them.
My knowledge is week at best of FEG and Hungarian guns in general. I have found this site : http://www.hungariae.com/index.htm and a few others. Anyone have good resources or collect Hungarian arms? Love to see some pics of your collection.
I am looking for a Mosin 91/30 and a Femuru 37M as my next additions.

FEG's are well made pistols. I share your interest in them

I have Pa63 mak, PJK, 37m and an SMC918 mak.

Great carry pieces also.

I checked my records; I bought a new FEG R9 9mm pistol back in Nov 1991 for $309.50 [plus NYS tax]. My memory of it was that all the edges were very sharp; it was painful to shoot. :(

Nice bluing; machining was equivalent to wartime manufacture; grips were OK but always looked unfinished... :rolleyes:

Edit: IIRC, the 'checkering' on the grips was pressed, not cut. ;)

FEG was also responsible for making the Mauser Mod. 80SA and 90DA pistols in the early 1990s.

I like the R9. IMO its a pretty good copy of a BHP with the addition of DA. I dont think that it measures up to the finish of a BHP, but it was +-$600 less also.
The PA63 is a nice little gun in 9mac. If I was able to carry in NJ it would be mt choice out of the guns that I own. I changed to the wolf springs and DA pull is manageable while the SA pull is downright nice.

How many places did they manufacture guns in Hungary? Was it only the FEG factory in Budapest with different names as the regime changed? Is Femuru and Frommer the same company as FEG? My M95 is stamped Budapest but I dont know the actual name of the factory where it was made, I always refer to it as a Steyr.

So many of those pistols are around and still current. Part must be available online. Try finding an extractor for a Frommer

I have a PA63 and a Browning Hi-Power clone.

Both are well designed and precision built.

The PA63 is unique in that it has an aluminum titanium alloy frame. It is light but extremely tough!!!

The Hi-Power clone has an outstanding trigger pull. Better than most real Brownings I've shot.

Does anyone know what happened to FEG after the communist government in Hungary fell?

The first one in your pics appears to be a re-badged FEG R9. What's the story on that? Did Mauser supply dies to have them badged 'Mauser'? Did Mauser inspect/proof them? :confused:

The second appears to be the Hi-Power clone. Did FEG have their own set of jigs/fixtures/machine tooling (perhaps from WW II) to produce the HP clone???

I would speculate that they did their own tooling and redesign. Please correct me if im wrong. But the HP is single action 9mm. The FEG was double action and 9mm or 45.

Anyone own one of the FEG or other Hungarian AK's? Any issues?
I feel like I need a AK. I must because I dont have one. What other semi-auto rifles did Hungary produce? Lore says that there are a few SKS floating around but I have never heard concrete evidence of a confirmed Magyar SKS.

The FEG Hi Power clone is a great gun.....I think I paid 230 bucks for it.....it's my glove compartment gun and shoots every bit as well as my Browning.

Don't have any experience with Hungarian guns, but since my maternal grandmother was Hungarian, I have a LOT of experience with sausages (best in the world), different kinds of gulash, paprikash, Tokay, Egri Bikaver, and few other things. :cheers:

Budapest is most likely my favorite city in the world.

There is a fella that makes excellent pistol grips in Budapest. He has made three(3) pairs for me, and sold a ton of them to others here in USA. He has an excellent reputation.
