The return of the Colt 1903?!

Chris, a little expensive considering you can find an original for less, but still cool.

Shame the Remington R51 failed....

That is a shame, and I don't know of any other handgun they ever produced. Still......I would like to see some new factory magazines for the Colt. Mine has only one original mag to go with it. :(

COLT 1903 is one of the prettiest pistols in human history. Will buy one if available in local gun shop.

Is it hammerless? If I remembered right, it has an internal hammer?

It's not really hammerless it has a concealed hammer.

Funny thing Browning improved the pistol in 1910 for FN. The FN 1910 is a really hammerless design.

The price I have seen quoted at about $1000 (retail higher) would be a deal breaker for me. Bill

It is my understanding that Remington will take back any/all of the original R51s in trade for the corrected/upgraded/repaired "NEW" R51 plus 2 extra mags and a carry case. To my knowledge, the new version is not available to the public just yet. Remington really shot themselves in the foot with this disaster. Time will tell if they can recover.

Chiang Wei-kuo, adopted son of Chiang Kai-shek, had a story on Colt 1903 in his memoir.

In 1942, he was a captain. On train traveling to another city, a general saw his pistol, which was a beautiful nickle-plated Colt 1903. General was surprised: "Wait a second.. where did you get this gun?" Chiang answered it being a gift from his father. General asked "Is your father also a soldier? May I see it in hand?" Chiang said no problem and forward the pistol over.

General took the Colt in hand, looked at the beauty and made Chiang an offer "I have a Browning, larger caliber and powerful, fitting you much better. Here... Let's trade". Then, he drew out his rusty Browning (must be a well used Hi-Power) and gave it to Chiang, and put Colt into his own pocket!! Chiang was very unhappy, but he obeyed, "Here is the magazine, I only have one". General said "Good" impatiently, and Chiang knew the trade finished he should leave.

After arrived destination. In the next day, that general obviously figured out where that "gift gun" came from. He rushed to Chiang's office and returned the Colt back.

"500 with same serial number and information about the General the original pistol was issued to."

That's a neat trick, how do they get away with that?
