DWM 1920/1917 Artillery- new to me

10 Attachment(s)
Here are some pictures of the LP08 is recently found at a local shop, and it followed me home!

She is all matching except for the magazine and that ugly wart of a recent repro side plate. The side plate precipitated my add for side plate #14 in the WTB area.

Serial is 3514h and appears to me to be in original blue and straw;
all numbers match including the grips- except those noted above.

The magazine is a double inspected Erfurt.

Comments welcome and info appreciated.

Like so many of these, I wish it could talk; especially as to how it came to "need" a repro side plate.:confused:

Hi Don, welcome to the forum. looks like a pretty decent Artillery, congratulations. While I understand your disappointment in the repro sideplate that may be somewhat lessend with your highly desired double inspected Erfurt magazine, as you may know they don't go cheap.

Don

It's quite a very nice artillery Luger, good pictures too, I realize that sideplate is a bit of a pain; you're right sometimes it would be nice if our Lugers could talk.

Don, a beautiful artillery Luger and I hope you are able to source up a 'new' sideplate!

Just as a side note, owners often removed side plates as a "safety precaution", knowing that the gun could not fire without it, (although we all know it can). Side plates were stored separately and upon the gun owner's passing, got lost in the estate shuffle.

Thanks, that is a very plausible story; similar to the missing bolts on Japanese rifles-removed so the kids could play with them and never found again!

Yes, and side replacement side plates have been problematic - poor fit will make it harder to operate the take-down level (locking bolt). I think you were lucky to find it with the original artillery long barrel - many were converted to short barrels.
