The Ermarican Eagle (so far)

Though the trigger is cast Zamak, 75% of the necessary parts that needed straw treatment are indeed steel in the KGP series. I'm casting about for a treatment of the zinc alloy parts that will yield an effective mimic of strawing's look. Other than polishing the parts, I re-shaped the safety lever to look better, a little more faithful to the lines and proportions of a Luger. The dark spot near the root of the lever is a low spot which was part of a taper on the untouched version. This experiment shows it needs to be filled up to surface level of the rest of the bar with a little TIG welding. the grip panels are the original Erma walnut variety, with the triple border worked down into a fairly successful extension of the checkered pattern all the way to the edges.
I plan to sell a very limited number of strawed and modified sets on Gunbroker--that is, after I break through the "zinc barrier" and have an effective way to color those parts, which will complete the set. If I can arrive at a process, it would also allow cosmetic treatment of the small parts of the earlier Erma toggle pistols, which are almost entirely made of Zamak. |
