Converted Artillery holster?
|
Sixgun1 (Meldon):
Based upon “German Small Arms Markings” by Görtz and Bryans, pp. 92-93, your “S.W.II.245 marking translates to weapon no. 245, command II in the Wiesbaden Municipal Police District. Don’t know what the “4248” number equates to but perhaps one of our other collectors who may have an opinion?? In terms of your holster itself, Alanint may be correct….full pictures of the front and back of the holster would confirm if it was originally an artillery holster then modified to its present configuration. S.W.II.245. indicates the holster contained P08 # 245 of the Schutzpolizei command in the city of Wiesbaden in the Prussian administrative district. The number 4248 is the serial number of the P08 it contained. This was added after the use of police unit markings was terminated in 1937.
