9mm Winchester Magnum Brass

For us do-it-yourselfers, Midway shows 9mm Winchester Magnum brass on clearance -

Starline Reloading Brass 9mm Winchester Magnum

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/941...chester-magnum

$19.52/100 [clearance]

It can be shortened and formed in ordinary RCBS 30 Mauser or 30 Luger reloading dies.

Lots of times, 30 Luger/30 Mauser brass is sold out. This is a good source for 'field expedient' brass for these calibers (and 7.62 Tokarev as well).

(I noticed this while looking for sources of 9x25 for an export C96 Mauser.)

(Can also be used to make 9x21 IMI brass).

Since all 9x19 cases start life too short and get shorter with time, it is also an excellent way to trim cases to actually fit YOUR handgun and minimize head space. If loading for one gun, the case length can be customized to the gun's actual head space length and not to SAAMI's head space length (which is 0.754-0.776").

The comment on headspace is an excellent one. I like my headspace much tighter than the loose allowances SAAMI allows.

Also, if you have a rare 9mm variant, like the Mauser C96 'Export' model broomhandle with the 9x25 cartridge, the 9mm Win Mag is one of the few sources of good brass. I've read on the other forum that the 9mm Bergman [9x23] will work, but it's just 'not right'.

In the past, I've fabricated/loaded up some exotic cartridges for friends who didn't want to get into the time/expense of reloading. My buddy Jim had a Lar Grizzly, firing a lengthened .45 cartridge. I made them from cut-down .308 Winchester brass. Jim liked real whompers, so we loaded them 'hot'. Lotsa fun. :)

The Midway order came in today. I took a pic of whatever other cartridges I had handy, just for comparison. :)
