RIA Apr 24-26 2015 Auction

Got a 16 page flyer for this Premier Firearms Auction on Saturday. No big catalog, and when I checked the RIA site Saturday, this auction wasn't listed yet. Doesn't seem to be online yet today either. "Over 2700 lots" the flyer states.

Couple of interesting handguns on the flyer. There is a half-page announcement for Ralph Shattuck's collection, but no pictures of his Lugers. I guess you have to buy the $60 catalog to get that.

My one bid from the last auction was listed on my sign-in page, with the hammer price. I was only off by $2,250...

I'll probably find something to bid on in this auction. I haven't won anything yet, maybe I'm due. :)

Edit: I just checked the RIA site with the last auction hammer prices posted...I was shocked to see that of the 10 - 12 Lugers I looked at, they ALL went for ~$1,500-$2,000 over the projected prices!!!

But two other non-Luger lots I looked at (but didn't bid on because they were 2-gun lots) went for well within my 'ceiling' even including 15% buyers premium... :(

I see my fault now...I'm bidding on the wrong guns... :crying:

I speculate that RIA is holding off the printed and online catalogs until this weekend's Julia auction is over.

Poulin Auction had a few Mauser M1930s sold at buyer profitable price just a few days ago. But the cycling time of those is long, probably not worth the effort for collectors. I bet they went to C&R dealers.

Got an email from RIA today about the upcoming auction next weekend - nothing earth shaking; just a reminder.

I was thinking about bidding on one of two lots; don't know now if I will [tooth problem]. Prices at last auction for what I was interested in were right-on the low estimates.

Bid or bid not? What would Yoda do??? :D

Gun collector's life is not unlike a revolutionist. Former Prime Minister Sun Yat-sen told his comrades, "in all my life I worked on how to move money around",,,, of course, his goal was not to improve his personal life, but for his revolutionary. Many gun collectors are same, moving money around, not really for improving personal life in conventional sense :)

Well, I just entered two bids on two different handguns. Don't really need either one, but I put in low bids on each. If I win both, I can cover the $$$. If I lose then it is the will of...[fill in local deity]... :p

That C96 carbine is good, unfortunately, it's a big ticket item, unlikely it will go under $20K. It worth 20K, but if this one comes at market fair price, there will be no money left for this year... most important -- this type of carbine is not my favorite,,,, so probably no... unless it's very very cheap,,,, unlikely though, seller must have a reserve. I'd better keep money for a future item that really catches my heart. All missing ones are expensive ones, probably can buy one in future. Only one.

OK!!! It's auction time!!!

I thought I was going to have to quit the auction, as my 20 yr old refrigerator slowly died. But my nephew bought a couple of my rifles/shotgun so I am waiting for the new fridge today! ;)

That frees up my auction cash. I was going to up my bids but I think it's too late now. :(

Regardless, I will be waiting for the results with bated breath...Will this be the year I finally win an auction??? Will I win both??? Will I cry myself to sleep tonight/tomorrow or celebrate all night???

Only time will tell... :D

Carbine sold $15K, that's $17250 with BP counted. Price is good.

Missed though. Too busy these days. Remembered its auction date wrong.... not Saturday.

common refrain for my bids

I put a bid in on something, it was accepted, but I don't know when they'll actually put it up properly. :P So I'm amused and wondering if I have to pay up or not. I suspect, like you all, I'll be outbid... Alas.

alvin 04-25-2015 04:06 PM

It's a little bit funny that we sat here competing who's bidding lower. That's good, but nothing comes so that's still a void. If bid low and it comes, that would be ideal :) Anyway, nothing comes this time then there is no cost, money is still in pocket, that's good for future sessions.

I'm still waiting to find out if my bid on the Webley semi-auto pistol was a failure or not. Do they wait until all the day's lots are done before you're notified? I'm new to RIA as a bidder (rather than lurker).

Norme 04-25-2015 06:40 PM

I was the winning bidder on a gun in yesterday's auction. I was notified soon after the end of that day's auction, by email.

I was also notified at day's end. Unsuccessful but I guess they notify you so if you had multiple bids in on successive days and won the first day, you could cancel the next days bidding.

Norm - What did you win??? :D

Hi Rich, I'll post it when I get it. In the mean time, here's a clue.
