DMW Luger P08 1918
 

Hi guys! I recently got the newest addition in my (very tiny) collection. It is a DMW Luger P08 9mm from 1918. Now I need your help to tell me what I have bought ;) I dont know much about this pistol, besides that it is a very good looking piece of excellent craftmanship, but that you already know ;)

As you can see on the pictures, there is some damage on the blueing on the barrel. Some say only blood can leave those marks, but I´m not convinced.

And further more, the magazines number unfortunatly doesnt match the pistol.

I bought the gun from an estate, an old man who passed away about a year ago. He had some really interesting firearms in his collection, but sorry to say that the gunlaws here in sweden isnt the best, so I had to choose on, and I fell for this one. I paid somewhere around 240 US dollars for this pistol.

If you have any troubles understanding what i mean, feel free to ask. After all, english is only my second language ;)

Congratulations on your purchase Martin, it is in excellant condition and appears to have the original finish. , Here in the states your pistol would probably bring a conservative $800. to prehaps $1200. or more. Welome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. As others have stated, you did EXCELLENT on the purchase of that Luger. It looks to be all original, even to a era correct non-matching(very common) wood based mag. You hit a home run. Enjoy!!

This P.08 is definitely military issue, as it is numbered in the military style and not the commercial manner. You purchased it for an incrediblly low price...what a bargain by our standards. The places where the blue has been removed definitely looks like dripping blood damage to me. I once owned a byf 41 Mauser with much the same problem across the top of the chamber and toggle.

Obviously, gun is cheap in Sweden. Not many people collecting C&R?

I think guns generally are much cheaper in Sweden because we dont have near the same market as you guys in the US does, most because of the gunlaws here. All weapons in Sweden are either for hunting or targetshooting.
There is no way to get a firearm of any kind for selfdefense for example.
And every firearm, from year 1890 and further on, must be processed and approved by the Swedish Police Department who issues a firearm license for that particular gun. This license, also states the weapons serialnumber, manufacturer/modell, caliber, if it´s meant for hunting or target/sportshooting and so on. The license for hunting you get on "lifetime", while the license for sportshooting you only get for 5 years. Then you have to file a new application for the same weapon...

You can get a collectors license, but then you have to prove that you got special reasons. For example, you are trying to get every single modell that Luger ever made and so on. Only then, and maaaaybe, the Police will issue this kind of license.. But then you cant take your beloved collection to the range and shoot them, no they are only for collecting..

I know that you have some different laws in different states "over there", which makes life happier for us "nerds" ;)
