1914 Erfurt Artillery

A couple of years ago I posted in this thread:

http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=30128

that my father in law had given me six Lugers. (the seventh one in the picture is an Erma .22, also a gift from him.)

Finally getting around to asking for specific information on them. Don't know much about them, and haven't had a chance to do a lot of research (one of those years was spent in Afghanistan, I just got back and can now focus on "fun" stuff), so I'd greatly appreciate any specifics anyone can provide.

First one, a 1914 Erfurt Artillery.

His only history of ownership is where he bought it from (a private seller at a gun show in Washington state). This pistol also came with a 1915 dated holster, cleaning rod, field strip tool, and repro flat board shoulder stock. It has a non-matching ser # magazine.

Any information would be appreciated. I'll post separate threads on the others over the next couple of days.

Please assume I know nothing about Lugers--which I don't, except their old and look good. Going to start doing a LOT of reading now.

This is a good looking and desirable Luger. However, I believe the side plate is a replacement--the numbers look a little strange and the top of the plate has the appearance of a previous cut for a police sear safety. Can't tell, but it looks like it may have been filled in.

What on the side plate are you looking at?

Looking at it and other sideplates, I can't tell the difference. What makes it a police sear safety? Would pictures of the sideplate's reverse side help?

A slot cut into the top.

Nice piece, but I believe the sideplate is replaced.
