70s Mauser Lugers
Went to a gun show today with no Luger content whatsoever. However, I did pick up a couple back issues of American Rifleman. One of them, December 1979, has an encyclopedically comprehensive article about Mauser's P.08 production in the '70s, written by Francis C. Allen. Lots of excellent information for anyone collecting these guns. The most interesting comment to me, however, is that Mauser prototyped a .45 cal. P.08, but decided that it was too huge and unwieldy to produce (more's the pity!)

<div>The belgian (!!!!) model is a bulgarian commemorative. The luger indicated as standard P08 is a 06/73 (look at the grip safety). The P08 model, w/o grip safety and with a fat barrel, was made in 1983. It is very rare to find.<br />

I remeber that also the LP08 both in 9 para and .30 Luger were made in 1985. Also the Carabine model in both caliber was made.<br />

<div>Rick, thanks eversomuch for posting this. I ran across a b&w picture of the "neon-glow" Luger a while back, was never able to track it down again. Its a very striking engraving job, I quite like it. I)
