Looking for more info on "double date" Lugers
 

I recently purchased my first luger. Mine is a 1914/1920 Erfurt with no unit markings but it does have these markings: http://www.gunsamerica.com/UserImage...wm_3566811.jpg on the right side. I apologize for not using my own picture but mine are not painted and they don't show up well in my pictures. There are no unit markings.

I have learned from my online readings that this is a so-called "double date" Luger that the 1920 stamp designates that it was Weimar property. I've read that many of these were used by police forces in the interwar but beyond that, I haven't found much information so any info anyone could provide or point me to would be much appreciated.

Specifically, I am interested in knowing what became of them during the WW2 era, were they reissued or stay with the police that were using them, etc. I can't find out much about their ultimate fate. More specific to my purchase, does the absence of unit markings rule out the possibility it was a police gun? Many of the ones I see on the interwebs that were police guns have unit markings.

Hello, welcome to the forum. The markings you show are the acceptance and proof markings.

WWI and after the war guns w the 1920 were police and army. Lots of them went to the police because the police was expanded, police for them is not the same as today or ours.

So, show pictures of yours, serial, etc and we can help more. Also look at the faq here and do searches.
