With all the little holes drilled where the serial numbers used to be...Not much.

Lugerdoc 11-26-2014 04:44 PM

If this is only tape over the first 2 digits of the serial, vise holes, I'd be conserned that the caliber (on the bottom of the barrel) is 9x21 vise 9x16 standard parabellum. TH

Giuseppe My post was kind of a joke but yes..coupled with the barrel change and the loss of finish this pistol is on the lower end of any value scale..

However if it has not been de milled and is in a calibur accepted in a European country for shooting then we would not be that familiar with values in Italy. Here a shooter might bring $600-800.

It looks to be a legitimate 1941 dated Code 42 Mauser Luger with a matching magazine. There were only about 7,000 of them made and many seemed to have disappeared in Russia. It's well worn and although I can't read the inscriptions on the bottom of the barrel clearly, it looks to have the original serial number and there appear to be capture markings forward of the serial number. It's a relatively rare wartime Luger and not necessarily a "shooter".

Lynn,
What is stamped in front of the serial number is "9x21", showing that the chamber has been punched out to make it Italian Friendly. It makes it a bit less desirable elsewhere but unfortunately necessary for private ownership in Italy.
Not sure if it is still "legitimate".

... ...

OK, Tom's pulling our leg...

It is stamped 9x21...I don't consider that to be any detriment but I know a true collector would... :(

Barrel seems original, just re-chambered...

Giuseppe,

You've censored your serial number in your pics. We see images edited this way on other occasions, and none of us could propose exactly why this is done. It was not regarded as any effective means of protecting anything we could imagine. I am curious why it was done.

Those do look like holes!

PSF in Italy is "smokeless pownder"

cda_berbaro 11-27-2014 02:45 AM

What does it mean "p" under the barrel?
Thanks

The "p" is part of the serial number.

Military Lugers were numbered in 10000 blocks starting with just the numbers then numbers and letter "a" then letter "b" and so on.

The suffix on the gun is a "p" but the suffix on the magazine appears to be an "o". Would need a better picture of the magazine to verify.

cda_berbaro 11-27-2014 11:16 AM

you're right, it's seems a "o".
So the magazine is by another gun?
