Info Code 42-2 Digit Date

Hi to everyone
Can you help me, and tell about if the p08 "Code 42-2 Digit Date", produced only in 1941 to Military contract, have marked the same serial of the receiver under the barrel with witness mark.
Many thanks

In January and February, 1941 the Mauser concealment code was "42" and "byf" which you find on the forward toggle. They were ordered to change their concealment code to "byf" on January 1, 1941 by the Heerswaffenamt.

The reason for the 1941 production of "42" code guns was an overrun of "42" marked forward toggles, almost 16,000.

These appear from the middle of the "n" block through the middle of the no suffix block that followed the "z" block. There are thought to be 15,711 mixed in among 51,697 byf code Lugers in those blocks.

Details are in "the Mauser Parabellum page 225 and 269-70.

ok, the barrels of these guns, have a serial number?

Yes, they should be marked the same with full serial numbers, bore diameter, etc.

I am guessing you are another new Italian member. If your pistol lacks the proper serial number and other pertinent markings, it is problably because it was replaced and a new barrel with an Italy-compliant caliber, (7.65?), substituted.

Doug

In Italy civilians are not allowed to own 9 Para guns, so the original chambers get modified (spoilt) into a 9x21 IMI , or they put a new 7,65 Luger barrel/chamber.
That's the way he cookie crumbles...
