Would appreciate opinions on this gun for $1600. I'm in the market for a nice original unit marked WWI gun. This one's been out there for a while, bids have been right at $1400. Thanks!

I too have been watching this for some time. The Luger looks correct to me……not so sure about the mag as the size of the numbers and the plus not only appear large but very deep. Not sure that the holster, given it condition, adds that much value. But, there is a "marked" take down tool included so the holster plus tool is clearly a plus.

The biggest "issue" with this Luger is the unit mark itself. I do believe that it is a correct/original unit mark. It is my understanding that this unit actually represents MG augmentation companies or units (my words and description) that were added to infantry regiments/divisions after 1914. Moreover, I am not aware of any documentation that allows one to determine what the parent unit affiliation was of the "100 M.G. 6." Perhaps some of our forum friends more familiar with the Imperial Army structure changes during the war can assist/clarify this point more?

I must admit to some bias at this point because I am a BIG FAN of unit marked Lugers and my attraction to them stems from the historical perspective of being able to track the type unit, its place in the Imperial Army structure and its corresponding wartime history. A unit mark of this nature, as I understand it, does not afford such an opportunity.

Again, in my opinion, a 1913 Luger in the condition that this is in should command a price higher than $1400 to $1600 and would if the unit mark was of a more "traditional type unit."

Good info, thanks. I was also thinking that the unit marking is a bit unusual. The straps seem to be very clean, so it's hard to believe it ever saw any action.

Added - Wouldn't the "6" indicate the 6th gun of the unit? I was a little concerned about the different font size, unless the "100 MG" was put on at one time and the "6" added later when the gun was actually issued.

The Saxon 1. Leib Grenadier Regiment Nr. 100 has had a MG company in 1913. It was issued to the III battalion. Station was Dresden.
The sizes of the numbers seem to be correct according the stamping order. Usually was the R. (for meaning infantry- regiment) behind the number 100.
Interesting would be to see the tool.

I think the MG means Machine Gun unit.

Why were so many unmarked?
