Holster unit markings

Gentlemen,
I just acquired a 1912 holster from a fellow collector with the unit marking: Gr.R.3. It also has the following embossed below the maker marking of Loh Sohne, Berlin: BA XV11. From what I have been able to find, this is Grenadier Regiment 3 or Guards Grenadier Regiment 3. Are they one and the same? From what I understand, the "Guards" name was bestowed upon units which had distinguished themselves in battle and that the "Grenadier" name indicated troops specializing in the use of grenades but as time went on it became more of an honorific name for some infantry units-is that correct. Does anyone have any information about the quality of this unit which they could share and their service during the Great War.

Thank you,
Ricardo

The Grenadier Regiment Nr. 3 was part of the I. Armee Corps.
But you wrote B.A.XV11 I think you mean B.A.XVII. That means Bekleidungs Amt of the 17. Army corps. The Grenadier Regiment no. 5 was in the 17. Army Corps.
May be a picture would help.

Holster markings

Sir,
Yes, you are correct. The marking is B.A.XVII as mentioned in your message. The number 3 could actually be the number 5. The stamping is indistinct as can be noted in the attached fotos.
Do you have any insight as to whether this was a Grenadier Regiment or a Guards Grenadier Regiment as I have read reference to both names? Might you know of the campaigns that they participated in during WW 1?

Thank you,
Ricardo
