This evening I was getting things ready for NGD. I had meant to get some quarters from the bank but forgot. So I was going thru some bags in the gun room looking for quarters. I found the quarters, but also, in the same bag, I found a 41/42 luger with a matching numbered magazine. I think it has been in the bag for 7 or 8 years.

that is amazing.....good fortune, if it has not tarnished....

That is intriguing. but I wish I knew what he was saying. Finding old guns in a money bag in a back room. What is an NGD??

National Gun Day, its the Louisville show - really nice one in February, I am planning on going there in Feb.

There have been two problems. One was when we moved into this house in 1988. Took years to open all of the boxes.

Then on June 20, 2006, the tank on the toilet (2nd floor) cracked vertically sometime between midnight and 7:30 AM. One half of the house was wet. Big holes were cut in the ceilings and walls to dry things out. All items in 1/2 of the house had to be packed and removed along with the furniture. The repair work was not finished until 3 days before Christmas when all of the items and furniture were returned. A daughter and family visited for Christmas and we had to move boxes so they could get to the beds.

The gun room area of the house was not affected by the water. But many items were moved into the unaffected areas. And them when the other items were brought back, some had to be stored so as to allow mobility in he house, which meant things were moved again and again.

No firearms went out of the house. So I knew it was still there, but did not know where.

No, it was not damaged. I did do a fast oiling on it though.

For whatever reasons, I do not have much problem with humidity such as would affect firearms. But then I use a lot of damp rid everywhere (including in closets etc) and a dehumidifier.

Mold, well, I do have a problem every not and then with it and leather goods.

I might mention that we have a lot of stuff in the house. All of the kids toys - accumulated from 7 kids, things -paper and otherwise - from parents, grandparents, aunts etc. My wife once ran a cake and candy making and sales business and when she quit all of the cake pans, candy molds, supplies were moved home (I have a big commercial convection oven in the basement, a big mixed - the tub is two feet high, etc.)

All of the family pictures from my mother-in-law (which my wife's sister wants but I will burn them first.) A sewing machine that has traveled the world. And other items from my mother-in-law.

I mentioned that everything was brought back 3 days before Christmas but it took months to open each box. In the process though, a lot of things were thrown away. All toys (well most of them) that were not complete ie: missing parts were disposed of, etc.

I had 5 cedar chests. Now down to 2 with one going as soon as my son and daughter-in-law get a bigger apartment or a house.

Charlie, I had a similar finding of a M1911A1 in an ammo can that I forgot about. I just double the price that I had on it 10 years before, and sold it at the first gunshow that I took it to. I'm just curious why you needed quarters for NGD? TH

Not to pry here, but you know that all photos can be easily, and cheaply, duplicated these days...

I have some odds and ends that I am going to price at $1.50.

My wife's sister is possessive. When my mother-in-law died, she wanted and grabbed everything. My wife was I'll and did not argue. Problem was that she did get everythig.

For example the pictures, the sewing machine and the round oak table. She did not realize it. After my wife died one of my kids mentioned same. Then she wated same.

I have scanned the pictures so that they can be shared with my kids. I offered to give her half of them plus scans of the other half. Her reply was that she wanted all of the originals. My rely was two fold. First--no. Second was that I was not her husband.

Was it right in the center in the back? I had this happen once on a toilet that had been minding its own business for 35 years. When I took the lid off the tank, the crack worked all the way around and the tank broke completely in half and fell on the floor.

Than Goddess I was home...

What in the world is that all about???

Lucky you that look into a bag and find a Luger with al matching numbers "forgotten" there for years... that really never happened to me :-(

Newby here. I could never be so lucky as to find a gun, any gun! But, a friend of mine buys and flips houses...more of a hobby for him I think?? Anyway, he bought a old house a while backthat needed total referb and during the restoration and hidden behind a ???loose floor board?? he discovered a cowboy type loaded revolver. I don't remember the cal. or make but he was really pleased about that.

Only after reading captron's post, I realized it's a Luger left from previous owner of the house, not you left there a few years ago and then forgot. That's a big surprise gift! How could people moving out but leaving many bags in room.. coin bags?

The way read it, the Luger belonged to the finder. He had simply forgotten about it and came across it when looking for coins.
