"Erma" Mags

How good are in your opinion the "Erma" mags, which are still available occasionally?

They are nickeled, with plastic or wood bottom ( plastic is cheaper, and I prefer it ... not because of price, but I think they are more durable, and they are aftermarket, anyway )

Or how do they compare to new MecGar´s?

TIA, Hermann

I think they're probably OK. All other original Erma mags I've encountered seem to be built quite well. These would be post-war, until when I don't know. They eBay out at around a hundred bucks, give or take. The other stuff like Triple K is cheesy, lighter gauge steel. Many are not marked as to maker. Sticking with what's the best available in our hemisphere will help ward off feeding problems. I'd buy one, if I could score it cheap enough, just to try it out.

I have one of the ERMA Luger magazines for 9mm / .30 Luger and it is very well made.

It's a collectible for me since it's in as new condition, so I haven't used it in a shooter, but everything about it looks well done.

all erma symbol/logo mags I have seen ( about 3 or 4 ) seemed well made except for a cosmetic item

the bottom of the magazine body ( seems that all have thin shiny chrome or maybe polished ) had the "C" shaped cutout that mismatched the upper curvature of the barrel parts of the plastic base. plastic base was correct semi-circle shape but mag body was sort of scalloped loosely around the barrel and so showed a bit of space between base and mag body

bases have a barrel end contour that is kind of like originals with flattened outer ring on barrel ends

probably the mec-gar is best choice - if you like/dont care re the navy like concentric rings on end of the barrels

happy hunting

Shot my Marine 08 ( "Pistole 04" ):

3 mags á 7 rds Lapua Luger load, old and new Charge.

Trouble free, very accurate, but, Boy, with that 200 m sight one has to aim for the belt buckle!

Used 2 Erma mags, one of the original Mauser mags.

I have already ordered another Erma mag ( the 3rd ) and 1 MecGar mag. Both nickeled.

And 2 Marine wood bottoms ... one for collecting, one for the Erma mag that I will use with the Marine Parabellum.

The Erma mags are all new ... and MUCH easier to load than the Mauser mags!
