death head luger

Check it out, a few days ago this came up. Real or not? Why would there be the DH mark on a 1918 gun? Little before its time?

1917 & 1918 Erfurts and DWMS had this marking, but many on the market are not the original deal! Jan Still has some pictures of these in his books! Thor

Re: death head luger

1918 is OK. The Death Head Lugers are WWI or later Freikorps. The Death Head isn't just a WWII insignia. Current guess is that they were WWI Flammenwerfer (flamethrower) issue. There was an earlier thread on this particular gun. I have one dated 1913 and have seen pictures of 1915, 1917 and 1918, both Erfurt and DWM.

Check out the Mauser Bump at the rear of the toggle life ramps...

Is it real or not?

John Sabato 04-03-2002 12:10 PM

The upper receiver might be original with the DH

But the lower half is from a post 1937 Mauser and I think it is a parts gun...

just my $0.02,

John

Re: The grip frame is WW2 MAUSER production

The receiver is Erfurt and looks fairly authentic for a Death Head. Wish there was a picture of the toggle assembly. It definately is a parts gun as John Sabato observed, but then a lot of Death Head Lugers are parts guns. Unfortunately, there are a number of fakes too. To my eye, the receiver is a "real" Death Head FWIW.

John Sabato 04-03-2002 02:36 PM

I concur Ron. The DH "looks" genuine to me too. (EOM)
